Hydrosol: Why Should You Get Them and Keep on Hand

We all know and love essential oil and the numerous benefits they provide, but what about its counterpart? What about hydrosol?

What Hydrosols Does KJE Carry and Why?

Hydrosols are created by steam distilling. In this process, the steam allows the cell walls of the plant material to break down and release its oil content. It is then cooled causing the steam to turn to water and the oil to float to the top. Thus, leaving behind two products; essential oil and hydrosol.

While they are not as concentrated as an essential oil, they still offer most of the same benefits. Here, at KJE, we carry several hydrosols which can be used in your daily routine.

Rose Hydrosol, or Rose Water, is commonly used as a lightweight moisturizer. Perfect for all skin types and wonderful at balancing and soothing. Some additional benefits include:

  • Mild astringent

  • Minimize the appearance of pores

  • Restore skins pH balance

  • Antioxidant properties

Its sweet citrus scent will instantly improve your mood and get you ready to tackle any situation.

Also, use it for

  • Ridding your skin of excess oil by spraying some on a cloth and using it on your face

  • An all-natural cleaner

Like Chamomile Tea, this hydrosol will assist in helping you relax and calm down after a long day. Chamomile Hydrosol is known to assist with stress, insomnia, depression, and anxiety. We recommend using it for the following.

  • Bath additive to give yourself an aromatherapy treatment

  • Room mist

  • Spraying your linens before laying down

Jasmine is not only a pretty flower but a powerful hydrosol. It can help you with the following.

  • Nourish and rejuvenate skin

  • Alleviate muscle spasms

  • Reduce unwanted bacteria activity

Add it to your skincare routine to fight against acne-prone or mature skin.

  • Treatment for minor sores and cuts

  • Improve blood circulation

  • Soothing and refreshing facial spray

It is known as one of the more versatile hydrosols due to its cooling effects. Use it to combat minor burns and irritations or to cool down after hot flashes.

  • Cooling mist

  • Additive to your bath or foot soak

How Can I Use Hydrosols?

While they may not be as concentrated as an essential oil they are a wonderful addition to your everyday routines. Below are a few ways to give your routine a refresh.

  • Refresh throughout the day! Hydrosol is extremely refreshing and easy for your skin to absorb. Spritzing on your face throughout the day will keep it looking its best.

  • Set your makeup. Give yourself a dewy look when you’re finished applying your makeup and set it with some hydrosol.

  • Hello, makeup remover. It's refreshing and helpful. Next time you go to remove your makeup ditch your chemical or heavy oil-based remove and go for all-natural, lightweight hydrosol. Spray some on a reusable cloth and wipe your makeup away.

  • Facial mask D-I-Y. Next time you make a facial mask, and it says water, switch it out for a hydrosol. It's great for customizing your mask for what you need.

  • Perfume. Why go chemical-based when you can go natural? Spritz as normal and enjoy the wonderful aroma they provide.

  • Refresh your linen. They don't leave a stain since they are not oil-based. Try spraying lavender on.

  • Not so harsh cleaner. Hydrosols make great cleaners. Simply spray on your dust rag or dust and wipe. It'll get rid of dust while providing a little aromatherapy. Or for a natural window cleaner try 1 part Lemon Hydrosol with 5 parts rubbing alcohol.
